The Wirtgen Group has long been an industry leader in machine innovation for the road construction industry. At World of Asphalt 2024, the company showcased their line of equipment for asphalt laydown and compaction and crushing applications and introduced new machines to the world in their booth.

The world premiere of the WIRTGEN W 150 Fi compact milling machine was a highlight of their exhibit. Thanks to its milling width of up to a maximum of 6 ft, the machine is particularly suitable for large construction sites with limited space, such as in city centers. John Deere's eco-friendly engine technology, Wirtgen’s digital assistance and leveling systems deliver higher milling performance with lower fuel consumption.

  • Maintenance freeDual VIO drums with vibration and oscillation capabilities on both the front and rear drums
  • High-frequency roller drums for faster travel speeds while maintaining compaction spacing.
  • Ability to run dual oscillation or have one drum vibrate and the other oscillate.
  • Auto switching feature where the front drum vibrates, and the rear drum oscillates when moving forward for continuous compaction.
  • Updated bio-resonance technology in the drums to work better with modern asphalt mixes.
  • Versatility to potentially reduce the number of rollers needed on job sites due to different compaction settings.

Digitalization as a Driver of Safety and Sustainability

Alongside machine efficiency and alternative applications and methods, digitalization and connected system solutions are important drivers in the development of the overall road construction process chain.

On display in the booth was the John Deere Operations Center for construction machines. This technology serves as the central platform for all present and future digital solutions developed by Wirtgen’s specialized brands for the optimization of processes, machines, and services.

The Operations Center is the central digital solutions platform for the management of entire construction sites – at any time and from anywhere, including planning, monitoring, maintenance, and analysis. The John Deere Operations Center™ will act as an interface between operators and machines on the construction site and the offices of site, fleet, and resource managers. In this role, it guarantees greater transparency, higher efficiency, and increased productivity.

The technology aims to help contractors who already rely on a variety of telematics and process solutions for construction site monitoring to address and fulfill the increasing demands they face in terms of productivity, efficiency, and process documentation.

The mobile version of the Operations Center is available as an app for Apple iOS and Android and can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store or Play Store.
