Simpson Strong-Tie has expanded its line of offsite construction solutions with MASOZ mudsill anchors designed for factory construction of sheathed wall panels. Like the original MASA anchor line, the new MASOZ connectors provide an alternative to traditional cast-in-place anchor bolts.

A smart design specific to offsite installation eliminates the need for a separate crew to drill and set anchors after wall panels are in place. The product also eliminates the need for additional blocking and connectors when used over sheathing.

“As more builders switch from stick-built framing to offsite fabrication, traditional mudsill anchors for sheathed wall panels are proving too labor intensive for the application,” according to Randy Daudet, group product manager for Mass Timber/Offsite Products. “The MASOZ mudsill anchor is specially designed for factory builds, reducing on-site labor by eliminating the blocking detail that is required for our standard MASA product line.”

MASOZ installs on the inside of the form board (outside of wall), allowing panels to be placed without aligning sill plate holes with protruding anchor bolts. With strategic nail hole and bend-line locations, the versatile design allows MASOZ anchors to work with up to 1/2-in. thick sheathing in flush or overhanging conditions and F1 loads compared to code-prescribed 1/2-in. anchor bolts. Form-board alignment features — a compound bend at the intersection of the top of the form-board and concrete, along with notches at the outside edge — facilitate installation. Nail holes include Simpson Strong-Tie’s patent-pending raised embossing to allow installation using a nail gun without positive placement.
