Wafflemat is the leading foundation system for single and multi-family residential and light commercial structures built on expansive, rocky, compressible, or liquefiable soils. Wafflemat has been used in over 30,000,000 sf in foundations across the USA, since its introduction in 1993. Wafflemat not only delivers significant cost savings by reducing soil prep, concrete, reinforcing steel, and building cycle time.

A highlight that the Wafflemat Foundation System offers is its recovery time after rain. A Wafflemat foundation is set on a level building pad, eliminating the need for trenching interior beams.

Wafflemat is a plastic void form box, strategically configured to provide a stronger slab with less material compared to a traditional foundation design. This approach simplifies traditional shallow foundations, streamlining the construction process and decreasing the amount of concrete used, all while offering a stiffer cross-section. The method involves preparing the grade, installing form boards, trenching the perimeter grade beam, spraying for pests, and placing a vapor barrier. Subsequently, boxes are positioned, clipped together, reinforcement is added, and concrete is poured. This approach diminishes the need to span the slab over 10 ft., with interior beams strategically placed at 44 in. on center in each direction, ensuring constant support and reducing the risk of over-excavated beams and concrete waste. Simultaneously, it accelerates the construction process significantly.

The team behind Wafflemat have presented their continued research at the 2023 and 2024 PTI Conventions, 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers Texas Section CECON conference, among numerous Lunch and Learn technical sessions throughout the country.
