In a recent conversation, leaders from Tarlton & Son and USG shared their insights on working together to deliver top-quality, efficient solutions in construction. Blaine Steele, Nick Hannum, Frank Cadwell, and Brandon Summers discuss how Tarlton’s approach to integrated project management and USG’s reliable products create a streamlined experience for their clients.

Blaine Steele opens the conversation, noting that Tarlton & Son has always looked to USG for the right products, and in recent years, this partnership has only strengthened. With USG’s extensive experience in the industry, Tarlton can rely on them for innovative solutions to meet the complex needs of today’s construction projects.

Nick Hannum explains Tarlton’s “frame-to-finish” concept—a method that reduces the need for multiple subcontractors on a job. By managing everything from framing and drywall to taping and finishing, Tarlton takes the load off general contractors, making it easier for them to keep the project on track. “We handle the coordination internally,” Nick says, “which means one less thing for the GC to worry about.”

For Frank Cadwell, working on a project that uses USG products from start to finish has been a game-changer. He appreciates that he can reach out to USG directly with any issues, avoiding the “finger-pointing” that can happen when multiple vendors are involved. “I can call Brandon at USG and get quick advice. It’s simple, it’s efficient, and we get to focus on the build,” he adds.

Brandon Summers from USG echoes this, noting that USG aims to be a “one-stop shop” just as Tarlton is for its clients. USG has everything contractors need, from interior and exterior gypsum panels to a broad range of finishing solutions. “If a contractor needs something VHI or moisture and mold-resistant products, we have it ready,” says Brandon.

Blaine shares that Tarlton has had great success with USG’s Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart Panels Firecode® X (ULIX®) product, which he describes as both durable and easy to handle. This sustainable, ultralightweight Type X panel provides contractors with a single panel solution for walls and ceilings, offering comparable sound, strength, and sag-resistance of standard 5/8 in. Type X. “It’s light, flexible, and just works,” he says.

On the finishing side, Frank highlights how USG’s Sheetrock® Brand Total™ Joint Compound has become a go-to for Tarlton. This regional formula is versatile for all finishing steps, applies smoothly with a “nice, creamy texture,” is easy to sand, and delivers high-quality finishing results for taping, filling and concealing fasteners, bead, and trim. The feedback from Tarlton’s team has been overwhelmingly positive, and Frank notes that it’s just one more example of how USG listens to their customers.

Blaine wraps up by emphasizing the value Tarlton places on its relationship with USG. “They’re more than just a vendor—they’re a partner,” he says. With USG’s support, Tarlton can confidently offer clients quality solutions that meet the highest standards, providing lasting value across every project.
