CarbonCure Produces 50 Million Cubic Yards of Lower Carbon Concrete

The climate tech company CarbonCure Technologies announced that the 50 million cubic yards of its lower carbon concrete has been produced to-date globally - saving 400,000 metric tons in CO2 savings.

CarbonCure Technologies, the carbon capture tech company focused on carbon dioxide removal in the cement and concrete industry, has reached a major mile-marker in the roadmap toward a net-zero construction industry. Their March 6 2024 release announced that 50 million cubic yards (38 million cubic meters) of lower carbon concrete has been produced globally. Noted in the release, the 50 millionth cubic yard was manufactured in Singapore, the first producer outside of North America. 

According to the CarbonCure, that's enough to fill the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T stadium with concrete, not once, but 13 times over. 

The milestone goes hand in hand as they have reduced and removed 400,000 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere from its technologies. This would be the equivalent of more than 88,000 cars or "to the annual carbon sequestration of 477,000 acres of forest."

Rob Niven, CarbonCure CEO sees their early adopters as the real heroes in the situation as they embraced the technology and recognized both environmental and economic benefits. "Reaching 50 million cubic yards of lower carbon concrete underscores the industry's commitment to sustainability and demonstrates the tangible impact of innovative solutions in reducing carbon emissions," says Niven.

CarbonCure's solution injected captured CO2 into ready-mix concrete where it mineralizes and embedded into the material. According to the company this can increase the concrete's compressive strength, helps producers optimize cement content and reduce carbon emissions without impacting performance.
