By the time this issue hits the street, the 2018 edition of World of Concrete will soon be upon us. And if you’re like me, I’m looking forward to seeing what new products and technologies exhibitors will have to offer.

Within the pages of this issue, you’ll find an expanded World of Concrete Product Preview section, page 24. This special section is designed to give you a sneak peek at what you may see at the show. Each product throughout this issue has been labeled with the manufacturer's associated booth number at the World of Concrete so you’ll know exactly where to go once you are onsite.

Education is a key part of the World of Concrete. One of the new courses this year is titled: PCA Codes, Resiliency & Wood: Impacting Your Business. As we’ve discussed in past issues of Concrete Contractor, wood-built structures continue to be a threat to not only the concrete industry, but also to the inhabitants of such structures.

This important course will be presented on Monday, January 22 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The course is presented by the Portland Cement Association and will include speakers Larry Novak, Jack Gibbons and Marc Nard. They will present a discussion on how codes, resiliency and the wood threat are impacting current and future business of concrete contractors.

Other topics expected to be discussed include:

  • Market Analytics
  • Reinforced Concrete vs. Wood Construction – Wood Stick built and Wood Cross-laminated Timber
  • Steps to Advance the Use of Concrete National and Local Codes
  • Building Better Communities with Concrete
  • Analyze the Economic and Resiliency Advantages of Improving Codes to Increase Business

As a concrete contractor, it’s important for you to understand the threat wood-built structures is to your business and what you can do about it. I would encourage you to sign up for this course to learn more.

Don’t forget to stop by our booth, # C4129 to see our live interviews with industry leaders as well as visit with our staff. We look forward to seeing you there!
